Coaches Hot Seat Analysis
First impressions tend to last, and
our first impression of Bob Stoops was at a practice at
the University of Florida when it was painfully obvious
there were two great football coaches on that field,
Steve Spurrier and Bob Stoops. If one had to
pinpoint Steve Spurrier's happiest time in the game of
football, we would guess that time would be the 3 years
that Bob Stoops worked as defensive coordinator at
Florida. After seeing Bob Stoops in practice and
the Florida defensive teams he put onto the field, it
was incredibly obvious that he was going to be a great
head coach one day. When you combine a tradition
like OU with a coach like Bob Stoops, great things
happen, and those great thing now include: 1
National Championship, 5 Big 12 titles, and 97 wins in 9
years. Very simply, Bob Stoops is not only one of
the best coaches in the game, and if he keeps this up,
he will be one of the best coaches ever to walk a
sideline.
There have been some chinks in the
Stoops' armor, with a handful of uninspired games being
played by his team over the past few years, and of
course the debacle of the last four OU BCS bowl games
hang over the OU football program. We believe
those are motivation and enthusiasm issues relative to
the OU coaching staff, and thus they are very fixable,
but the door is slightly ajar now on whether Oklahoma
and Stoops are still on the rise or are they satisfied
with their achievement and are now headed back down the
mountain. That brings us to he 2008 season.

Bottom Line
We predict Bob
Stoops and Oklahoma will have a 12-0 record in 2008.
One of the most important factors in
determining the success of a football team is the amount
of enthusiasm that a head coach and his staff bring to
bear to their jobs, because high enthusiasm almost
always translates to motivated players and more wins.
We believe that Bob Stoops is fed up with the
inconsistent play of his OU teams in the past few years,
the Texas Tech and West Virginia game last season come
immediately to mind, and that Oklahoma will be back in
full-force in 2008. In addition to a motivated
coaching staff and team, the schedule is very favorable
with the toughest games being on a neutral field or at
home (TCU, Texas, Kansas and Texas Tech). We
believe that the favorable schedule combined with a
reinvigorated Bob Stoops translates into a 12-0 regular
season record, and it will then be up to Stoops to
figure out a way win the bowl game.
