COACHES HOT SEAT ANALYSIS

One must really wonder what Pete Boone, the Mississippi athletic director, is thinking today as he remembers back to the disastrous firing of David Cutcliffe in 2004.  David Cutcliffe was doing a very good job at Ole Miss, putting up 5 winning seasons in 7 years at the school, and an overall record of 44-29 (.671).  The reports in 2004 were that Pete Boone demanded that Coach Cutcliffe fire several assistants, and after Cutcliffe refused, Boone fired him.  Then the genius in Oxford went out and hired an unproven assistant, with a questionable background in Ed Orgeron.  What was Pete Boone thinking?  He wasn't thinking is the answer, and he certainly has an unrealistic view of the level of football that Ole Miss can play at in the very tough SEC conference.  Memo to Pete Boone:  David Cutcliffe is a terrific football coach, and he is a far better coach than anyone Ole Miss could hire now, and your hiring of Ed Orgeron has been nothing short of an unmitigated disaster.  Coaches Hot Seat took a look at the 2007 Ole Miss schedule and not only is there no way the Rebels can put up a winning season, they will be very lucky to win 4 games.  The SEC has turned into a meatgrinder, and Ole Miss and Ed Orgeron are going to get eaten up in this upcoming season, and if the Rebels do finish 4-8 as Coaches Hot Seat predicts, Ole Miss will be looking for a new coach in December.   Memo to AD Pete Boone:  Get your next head football coach list together, and this time you need to hire someone qualified to coach in the SEC.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Ed Orgeron will be looking for a new job in December 2007.
